The SBKW University has established a
Gem and Gemological Institute on its
campus in collaboration with Gem and
Gemological Institute (GGIP) Peshawar
and Small and Medium Enterprise
Authority (SMEDA) Balochistan. Rs. 2.101
million for the project has been
released from Governor’s Special Fund
2004-05. The institute has been
established on the pattern of Gem and
Gemological Institute Peshawar (GGIP).
Technical cooperation and assistance has
also been provided by GGIP.
The project will be completed in two
phases. At the initial stage, gems
cutting, polishing and carving center
has been established. The aim is to give
technical training to the faculty,
students and women from Balochistan, to
use state of the art technology in
cutting and polishing semi precious
gemstones and in manufacturing of marble
and granite handicrafts; enabling them
to come into this business and generate
self-employment through exports |
