PELI ‘the Pakistani Educational Leadership Institute’ is hosted by Plymouth
State University, USA. This year in July Ms. Huma Batool (Department of plant
Sciences) and Ms. Durdana Khosa (English Department) were selected to
participate in this program along with 38 other alumni from all over Pakistan.
This year’s theme for the summer institute was “Leadership in a Climate of
Change”. During the month long institute the alumni prepare a Master Action Plan
with the help of instructors at Plymouth State University, USA for
implementation when they return back to Pakistan. Ms. Huma Batool implemented
her Master Action Plan (MAP) Titled “Advocacy and Creation of Women Activist
group to Explore Climate Change” at Hannah Hall of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women
University from October 25- 28, 2011. This was a four day’s workshop with
creation of a Women Activist group on the fourth and final day of workshop.
There were 35 female participants from different departments of University of
Balochistan, Bureau of Curriculum and Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University
Quetta. The Main resource person and coordinator of the workshop was Ms. Huma
Batool, while three more Climate Change experts were also invited to share their
views with the participants.
This workshop for the first time introduced the idea of impacts of climate
change on women of Balochistan specially and creation of a group of women who
can explore together livelihood options for women hit by climate change. The
formation of the group at the end of the four day’s workshop was a huge success
beyond expectations, with a president, vice president, general secretary,
coordinator, treasurer and 16 other members. Ms. Huma Batool as the coordinator
of the group created a face book account shared by all the group members and
office bearers. Ms. Huma Batool will assist the group run smoothly as it is anew
group, and further two activities of the group are arranged by her to be
launched in December, 2011, hence this is not the end but the beginning for all
those women of Balochistan who are ready to take challenges and who want to play
their role in the sustainability of humanity.
