The need for a women's University was felt for several years by the people of Balochistan. it materialized with the coming of Mr. Owais Ahmed Ghani as Governor Balochistan. The fate of the land and building of the old Sardar Bahadur Khan Tuberculoses Sanatorium, the property of Pakistan Railways was being decided, as the hospital was non functional. As luck would have it , the Prime Minister of Pakistan too was from Balochistan, Mr. Zafar-ullah Khan Jamali.

A decision was taken that the Sanatorium spread over 39 acres of land, with scores of room, wards and bungalows will become the women's University of Balochistan. Since the land and building were a gift from Pakistan Railways for the women's University, it was decided to retain the name Sardar Bahadur Khan to continue to honor Sardar Bahadur Khan who was the agent to Governor General of Pakistan as well as Minister for Pakistan Railways. The SBK women's University was incorporated with the University Ordinance approved on March 10,2004 , the vice Chancellor's appointment orders issued on March 11,2004. Work began earnestly from one room on campus with a borrowed work table, a few chairs and a borrowed

phone line that rarely worked. Support was provided by the University of Balochistan and the Chancellor/Governor's Secretariat. Transport too was rented. In as record time of 59 days , classes were created out of the long Sanatorium wards, partitioned, painted and repaired ;furniture for the class rooms , faculty rooms and staff rooms. Faculty was recruited for subjects offered, and students administered entrance tests, and classes initiated. Library too was established, with books, furniture and staff

recruited. There was no water as the old tube wells had dried up due to falling ground water levels, and hundreds of pine trees dried and were dying. Electric power was erratic ; it would go away in the morning and back in the evening .A small diesel generator was purchased and connected to one computer that was used for University paper work. We had our teething problems had to recon with neighborhood that resisted the construction of boundary wall . The University had to give away 5 feet of land on two sides to provide a narrow road for the neighborhood "Kachi Abadi" residents. All that history how I look back at the great challenge provided to me by he honorable Chancellor/Governor. A very strong foundation has been laid for a class educational institution of higher learning in Balochistan. The pioneering class that numbered 137 young women is confident and bubbling with positive energy.

These and hundreds more  who will pass through this institution  will be the future mothers and raise children who will make Balochistan and Pakistan proud. That will bring about a positive revolution country. In Conclusion ,I would mention a few

names of people who made my task easy: Professor  Jamila Qazi, the Registrar; Sara Hameed ,PSO to VC ,Mohammad Akbar deputy Director Technical , Naveed ullah Khan Deputy Director Finance and Javed Ashraf Deputy Registrar . I would like to thank all and everyone involved with the women's University , each had a role to play, and if we continue this way, our dream will come true - the SBK women's University will be there to stay as quality institution of higher learning in Balochistan
