Grant of 1st Patent of SBKWU

Dr. Ayesha Mushtaq, Associate Professor of Biochemistry at SBK Women’s University, has made history as the first inventor from Balochistan to receive a patent from the Intellectual Property Office, Karachi (Patent No. 144408) for her groundbreaking innovation, “A Controlled Release Fertilizer Combination Comprising Coated Silica Nanoparticles and Its Process for Preparing the Same.” She earned her M.Phil. degree from SBK Women’s University in 2013 and her Ph.D. from BUITEMS in 2020, where, through the prestigious FDP Split Scholarship, she conducted advanced research at the Center of Excellence in Nanotechnology, AIT Thailand, synthesizing silica nanoparticles and developing the controlled-release fertilizer. This innovative research is jointly patented with her Ph.D. supervisors, Dr. Naeem Shahwani and Dr. Najam Malghani. This breakthrough aims to address Balochistan’s agricultural challenges, such as soil salinity, water scarcity, and extreme climates, by improving soil fertility, crop resilience, and water retention.

1st Ph.D. scholar of SBKWU – Dr. Gul Makai Panezai
My name is Dr. Gul Makai Panezai, and I am the pioneer Ph.D. scholar of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University. After completing my coursework in Zoology at SBKWU, I won a scholarship and, through my perseverance and dedication, went to the University of Exeter, UK, to conduct my research. I successfully completed my Ph.D., publishing my work in international peer-reviewed journals. My journey also led to the signing of an MoU between SBKWU and the University of Exeter, fostering lasting academic collaboration. As a female scholar from Balochistan, living alone in the UK for studies was not only a cultural adjustment but also an academic, environmental, weather, and food-related challenge. Yet, these experiences strengthened my resilience and determination. I was fortunate to have the unwavering support of my family, my supervisor’s guidance, and the cooperation of both institutions. In 2021, I proudly became the first-ever Ph.D. graduate of SBKWU — a milestone of dedication, hard work, and collective support. I hope my journey inspires other young women to aim high and embrace challenges.

I, Dr. Zainab Siddique, from the Department of Z oology, proudly completed my Ph.D. in 6 years from SBK Women’s University, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Hailing from Sibi, my academic journey was not without challenges, but with the unwavering support of my supervisor, Dr. Shagufta Sadozai, and my husband, I was able to persevere and succeed.

I found the faculty and the Graduate Studies Office to be exceptionally supportive throughout this journey. My doctoral research focused on three marine fish species from the Gwadar district, an important and pioneering contribution to fisheries research in the region. Today, I am serving as Assistant Director Fisheries, Harnai, where I continue to apply my knowledge and passion for advancing aquatic sciences and fisheries management.
