Many people ask, “Why is it important to study Economics or learn |
about our economy?” There are many reasons but one of the most important is to
study that how people get goods and services they need and want within their
limited resources keeping in view their priorities. It deals with the problem of
limited resources and their efficient utilization for living a better and happy
life.
It also focuses on money-how it is made, circulated, lost, used or misused. When
our economy does well, we as a nation and as an individual do well. When our
economy is in crises, the nation suffers and we as people don’t get the
goods and services we need which in turns affects not only the financial
condition of an individual but also have impacts on social and cultural life of
the whole nation. Thus it is important for all the citizens that they should be
kept informed about the economy, its ingredients, its functioning process and
the last but not the least, the benefits and dangers caused by ups and downs in
it. The responsibility of informing people increases when we talk about a
less-developed or under-developed country where the lack of education and
knowledge stops the people from taking active part in the development and
betterment of the country and the global society in this era of globalization.
To achieve all above mentioned goals, Department of Economics started imparting
knowledge in May, 2004 and has the honor of being one of the pioneering
departments of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University, Quetta. The department
actively pursues the highest possible standards in teaching and research work
within its limited yet best possible resources. Staff-students relations are
excellent and the Department prides itself on creating a warm and friendly
environment in which all its stakeholders are able to realize their full
potential.
The Department is currently offering M.Sc. Economics degree within a modular
framework and BS 4 years program is likely to start in October 2008. The main
areas of research in the department include development economics, international
economics, macro economics, monetary economics, micro economics and other
current economic issues.
