Department of Bio Technology
Faculty of Life Sciences

Dean HOD
Dr Naheed Sajjad
Dr. Farah Naz
Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary science, which is over lapping botany, zoology, microbiology, bioinformatics, biochemistry, pharmacy, molecular biology, genetics, agriculture, forensic and medical science. It is fundamental and applied science that provides foundation for understanding the natural and material world. Biotechnological revolution is commencing into a new age of research and development, a science that will significantly impact practically every aspect of human life. The world is becoming more and more aware of the critical importance of biodiversity and natural resources, Balochistan being rich in its natural resources and biodiversity is taking these realities into consideration, Department of Biotechnology in Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University, Quetta, Balochistan can play a significant role in fulfillment of such major goals.
Biotechnology department was established in November 2009 at Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University Quetta. The only program offered then by the department was BS Biotechnology. Later, in 2014-2015 with the induction of PhD faculty members the department offered PhD and MPhil programs respectively.
The department has highly qualified faculty consisting of Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Lecturers. The department includes 08 PhD qualified faculty out of which 02 have recently completed their PhD from Biotechnology Department, SBKWU. Biotechnology. Biotechnology department is the pioneer department to produce first PhD of SBKWU.
Vision

To become one of the leading biotechnological research and educational center of Balochistan, Pakistan, imparting biotechnological knowledge and skills, and contributing towards women education and development in the field of science and technology, within the parameters of Islam.

Mission
To impart knowledge in order to revolutionaries the use of biotechnological processes for the expansion in scientific research and development, to bring improvements in agriculture, medicine, health, education, industry, veterinary and environmental sectors of the country and to produce biotechnological graduates with dynamic skills and professional attitude in order to fulfill the opportunities existing in biotechnological field globally.
